Planning Your First RV Trip

Taking your first RV trip is exciting, but it can also be tough knowing how to properly prepare. For your first outing, use the below tips to help prepare yourself and your RV for a fun vacation.

Build a Budget

First, you’ll need to build a budget for your trip. Don’t worry, this isn’t as huge an ordeal as it may seem. You just want to make sure you’re accounting for all of your trip expenses and that you have some money set aside for emergency repairs or medical assistance. You likely won’t need emergency funds, but they’re very good to have!

Set aside money for all of your campsite fees, for any attractions you wish to visit, and figure out how much you want to spend on food. You should try to do bulk cooking as much as you can, but a few meals out will make your trip more fun. Give each of the kids some spending money for souvenirs or treats, too.

Plan a Fuel-Friendly Route

One of your biggest expenses will probably be gas, which is why planning out a route is so essential! You can figure out how many miles per gallon your rig gets on the highway and do the math with a sampling of gas prices (try a site like gasbuddy.com to figure out average prices on your route) and the mileage you’ll be driving to arrive at a good gas budget.

Prepare Your RV

Finally, it’s time to prepare your RV! You should give it a good wash if it’s been a while and make sure to clean out the interior so it’s fresh and ready. Do a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior and take care of any repairs that need your attention.
